MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Hilbert College softball team just keeps getting better the more time they spend on the diamond. The Hawks picked up a pair of wins today over Chatham University (8-0) and Wentworth Institute of Technology (3-1) running their win streak up to three games.
Victoria Dzaak earned her first win in the circle striking out three, with three walks but only gave up only one hit in the seven inning game against Chatham.
Hilbert scored twice in the first inning and added a single run in the 5th, with three in the 6th and their final pair in the 7th.
Rebecca Baily went 2 for 3 hitting a double and a triple with an RBI. She and
Jenna Castricone, who also went 2 for 3, both scored two runs while
Morgan Grosch went 2 for 4 but led with 2RBI in the first inning.
The Hawks then played another nail bitter this afternoon against Wentworth. The Leopards got on board in the first inning and held Hilbert scoreless until the bottom of the 3rd.
Brittany Cooley advanced home on a throw to knot the game at 1-1 and
Marisa McIntyre gave Hilbert the lead in the next inning which they never relinquished.
Nateal Papasergi knocked in
Hannah Prenoveau for the final run of the game in the 5th as Hilbert improved to 5-4 with the 3-1 win.
Bailey and Grosch went 2 for 2 and Grosch grabbed a couple stolen bases while out running the pads. As well, Prenoveau earned the game's only triple.
Marisa McIntyre improved to 3-1 in the circle, struck out eight more and now leads the AMCC in strikeouts this spring (39). She gave up one earned run and four hits in the victory.
Things don't slow down for the Hawks. They have three games on their schedule on the final day of their competition. Hilbert is set to play Wesley College (9:30 am), Johnson State College (11:30 am) and close at 3:30 pm against Robert Morris College (Ill).
