Softball Gets Games In At Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa. – Rachel Collier went 2 for 4 and drove in Hilbert's only run of the day as the Hawks dropped two games in central Pa.  Altoona improved to 2-0 in AMCC play after their 15-1 and 8-0 home victories.  Hilbert fell to 0-4 in league play.

Victoria Dzaak opened the 12pm match and covered the game's first two full innings and part of the third and gave  up 14 runs and 11 hits.  The Lions posted 12 runs before Jaelyn Gotham took over and went the final distance.

After Jenna Castricone reached 1st on a fielding error, she moved to 2nd thanks to TylerLynn Langer's single to center.  Both baserunners moved after Rachel Collier's poke to left center earned her an RBI and the Hawks only score.

Gotham faced seven batters to close the game and gave up two hits and one run.

Hilbert's Langer hit a double in the top of the 5th but she was stranded there and the game ended after Hilbert's final out in the inning.

In the night cap, Altoona put all eight runs on the board by the bottom of the third inning while holding Hilbert hit-less through that time.  Lindsay O'Neil connected for the Hawks' only hit in the top of the 5th when her single snuck through the left side.  She did not advance further thanks to a field choice throw-out at second base to stop any potential rally.

Jaelyn Gotham dropped her fifth game of the season after four innings of work.  She struck one out, walked five and gave up 12 hits.

The softball team is scheduled to travel to Penn State Behrend March 31 for a double header at Penn State Behrend.
