AMCC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR JANUARY 23-29, 2023

The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports of men's & women's basketball, swimming and diving, and men's wrestling and volleyball for the period running from January 23-29, 2023.

Men's Wrestling: Hiram SR Devan Welch had a 1st-place finish in the 285-lb bracket at the Jamestown Community College Open. The senior beat Niagara Community College by decision (3-2), Ohio Wesleyan by decision (8-2) and Pitt Bradford by decision (7-2).

Women's Swimming: Alfred State SO Madison Snayczuk was part of three first place finishes and one second place finish in a tri-meet against SUNY Brockport and Fredonia. Snayczuk won the 50 free (25.64) and placed second in the 200 free (2:06.65), while also placing first in the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay.

Men's Swimming: PS-Behrend SO Tim Compton had a hand in three victories, while breaking the pool record in the 200 butterfly vs. Nazareth. He swam a 1:53.61 to set the record, leading off with a time of 25.79 and finishing with 29.90 in the 200 fly for first place. Compton also won the 100 butterfly in 51.96 while also swimming the third leg of the winning 200 medley relay (1:39.60).

Men's Diving: Alfred State FR Conor Compton continued his impressive season with another 1m and 3m dive pair of wins. In the 1m, Compton posted a 312.75, beating the second-best diver by more than 30 points. In the 3m, he put up a 319.70, winning by more than 40 points.

Women's Basketball: La Roche G Machia Hairston recorded two double-doubles last week, including a season-high 25 points against PS-Altoona, to keep the Redhawks a perfect 8-0 in conference play. In a win over PS-Altoona, she recorded 25 points, 13 rebounds, and an assist. On Saturday against Pitt-Bradford, Hairston picked up her second double-double on the week with 21 points, 17 rebounds, three blocks, and two assists. The senior averaged 23.0 points, 15.0 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, and 1.5 assists per game. Hairston went 17-for-34 on the week, for a 50% shooting percentage from the field. 

Men's Basketball: PS-Behrend G Tommy DiRienzo averaged 26.0 points and 7.0 rebounds, shooting 61.3 percent from the floor in a 1-1 week for the Lions. In a loss against Alfred State, DiRienzo recorded 25 points, eight rebounds, three steals, and two assists. In a win over Mount Aloysius on Saturday, he scored a season-high 27 points, grabbed six rebounds, and once again added three steals and two assists. DiRienzo drained seven three pointers on the week and went 7-for-8 from the charity stripe.

Men's Volleyball (Offensive): Wells OH Connor Garvey led the Express in three matches last week. He recorded 32 kills (3.91) and a .338%, as he tallied 34.5 points combined on the weekend, averaging 4.25 per set.

Men's Volleyball (Defensive): PS-Behrend MH Lewis Rhodes tallied 12 blocks (1.00 blocks per set) in three matches this week. He had seven blocks vs. Saint Vincent College. Rhodes also added 15 kills and four digs.
