LEDWIN, O'LEARY PROMOTE ONE TEAM PROGRAM ON NCAA SOCIAL SERIES

This week the NCAA Social Series features a 30 minute interview with AMCC Commissioner Donna Ledwin and former Mount Aloysius College lacrosse coach and SWA Danielle O'Leary about their work as facilitation partners for the D3 OneTeam program.

Ledwin and O'Leary have conducted the OneTeam training for 19 NCAA Division III conferences, institutions, SAACs and special interest groups, including all nine AMCC member institutions as well as the conference SAAC.  They were interviewed by Andy Katz, who creates weekly education pieces for the NCAA on issues and current events affecting college sports.  Past topics have included mental health, the pandemic, Black Lives Matter protests, and name/image/likeness.

"This was an incredible opportunity to tell more people about OneTeam, and discuss the benefits of participation," said Ledwin.  "As I told Andy, our goal is to be sure everyone is in a place where they feel respected and welcomed, because if they're not, they're not going to be able to do their best work, whether it's in the classroom or on the field or in their office.  You can't have the best possible team, or department, or conference if there are folks, members of your team, do not feel respected or welcomed."

Ledwin went further:  "The LGBTQ community needs allies.  The good news is D3 is full of allies who want--and need--to step up.  I'm so proud of our AMCC members for their willingness to engage in OneTeam, and thankful for the opportunity to encourage others to do the same."
