AMCC PLEDGES ACTION IN FIGHT FOR RACIAL EQUALITY AND JUSTICE

The members of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference express their great sadness at the multitude of senseless killings of Black Americans, most recently George Floyd, at the hands of police in cities and towns across this country.

The countless acts of resistance across the nation over the past two weeks aimed at raising consciousness and taking action to fight racial discrimination must not be in vain.  The Presidents and Chancellors speak as one when stating we all bear responsibility for continuing the fight for equality and social justice.  As a conference we also acknowledge that our work must begin at home.

To that end, the AMCC pledges to take real steps in the coming year to address the areas of hiring, recruiting, education and community service.  We commit today to providing our student-athletes, coaches and administrators with tangible evidence of our contribution to moving the needle of racial equality forward.

Institutional racism permeates all aspects of American life; higher education and sports are not immune.  Until this unjust reality is addressed with concrete measures, there will be no peace on our streets or on our campuses.  We invite all members of the AMCC intercollegiate athletics community to join us in this effort.
