PITT-GREENSBURG BASKETBALL TEAMS LEND A HELPING HAND

PITT-GREENSBURG BASKETBALL TEAMS LEND A HELPING HAND

Shortly before Christmas, the Pitt-Greensburg men's and women's basketball teams came together to help local families in need by helping pack "chemo comfort totes".

The totes were then distributed to adult patients at the Arnold Palmer Cancer Center, Mt. View, in Greensburg, as well as children's patients at UPMC Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Pitt-Greensburg sent letters out to the local community to generate sponsorships that went directly to purchasing supplies for the Comfort Totes. The Bobcats gathered enough support that was able to pack 31 bags. Each sponsor that donated towards the totes had a loved one's name engraved on a wooden tag that was attached to the bags.

The organizers of the project, Craig and Holly Hallman, came up with the idea after hearing the story of Eli Carr, a student in Holly's seventh grade class at Wendover Middle School. Carr recently lost his mother, Carolyn Carr, who passed away from breast cancer the Monday after Thanksgiving.
