HILBERT MEN'S BASKETBALL GIVES BACK DURING THE HOLIDAYS

HILBERT MEN'S BASKETBALL GIVES BACK DURING THE HOLIDAYS

Sue Cervi, the Director of Volunteers from the Buffalo City Mission, was presented with financial donations and non-perishable food prior to the Hilbert College men’s basketball game December 3.

Several years ago coach Rob deGrandpre and his basketball staff offered to use his programs opening Tip-Off Tournament as a way to help the Buffalo City Mission, and this fall, the Hilbert Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) gave the hoops team an assist.

Six years ago, the men’s basketball program created a “Hawks Against Hunger” team project which was designed to raise awareness of the need to take care of the under-served community members.  The team accepted financial donations knowing that every one dollar and ninety-eight cents raised goes directly towards providing a warm meal, and hope, to someone less fortunate than many of us.

The basketball captains (Hunter Martineau, Joseph Braniecki and Nicholas Parucki) as well as the SAAC executive officers (Katelyn Proy, Myles Hervey and Taylor Corts), who helped facilitate a 50-50 drawing during the Hawks Against Hunger tournament, presented a large enough donation to cover over 180 meals to clients at the downtown Buffalo location.
