MEDAILLE CLAIMS TOP SEED IN WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT

It wasn't decided until the last day of the regular season, but Medaille College (17-7, 7-2 AMCC) has earned the top seed in what looks to be a very entertaining championship tournament that doesn't appear to have a weak link. The seedings fell virtue to the tiebreaker rules, as the top two seeds share identical 7-2 conference records, and seeds #3 through #6 all share a 6-3 conference mark. The Mavericks will be looking for their second conference title, since claiming their first and only championship in 2012. 

Medaille is led by senior OH Susan Muldoon who is a two-time AMCC  Player of the Week. Muldoon leads the conference with 286 kills, 3.11 kills per set, and 0.92 blocks per set. She also ranks second with a .302 hitting percentage. The Mavs will also looks to senior S Simmone Talford, as she is tops in the AMCC with 9.16 assists per set and is fifth with .39 service aces per set. 

Penn St. Altoona (14-12, 7-2 AMCC), with an identical conference record as Medaille, enters the tournament as the #2 seed after suffering a loss to the Mavs on Saturday. Sophomore MH Tori Shingler leads the Lions, and the AMCC, with a .333 hitting percentage, is fourth in the conference with 236 kills, and fifth with 2.59 kills per set. Junior L Emily Baker is second in the conference with 5.18 digs per set, while sophomore S Jenna Krivansky is second with 8.18 assists per set. After falling in the championship game last season, the Lions are out to claim their third conference title.

Franciscan University (12-17, 6-3 AMCC), who claimed their first conference title in 2015, are back this year as the #3 seed. The Barons will bring with them the AMCC Preseason Player of the Year, senior L Sam Kelly, who leads the conference with 525 digs and is fourth with 4.95 digs per set. Senior OH Dani Link ranks second with 268 kills and 2.76 kills per set. 

Penn St. Behrend (14-14, 6-3 AMCC), the winners of three previous AMCC championships, enters the tournament as the #4 seed. Senior DS Courtney Hopson has been solid all season for the Lions, as she ranks third in the conference with 506 digs and 5.06 digs per set, and is fourth with 0.41 service aces per set. 

#5 La Roche College (15-12, 6-3 AMCC) will have their sights set on the program's first conference title. Senior DS Kelly Slates leads the league, and is sixth nationally, with 6.0 digs per set, and is second in the conference with 522 total digs. 

Rounding out the conference tournament is Mount Aloysius College (12-11, 6-3 AMCC) who earned the #6 seed. Sophomore MH Kristin Miles is second in the conference with 0.48 service aces per set, while junior OH Lindsey Mercer is third with 243 kills and is fourth with 2.61 kills per set. 

First round games will take place on Wednesday, November 4 at 7pm with La Roche at Behrend and Mount Aloysius at Franciscan. The NCAA women's volleyball championship will take place on November 19-21 at Van Noord Arena in Grand Rapids, MI.
