PENN ST. ALTOONA LOOKS FOR THIRD AMCC WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TITLE

Penn St. Altoona has earned the top seed for the 2014 AMCC Women's Volleyball Tournament with a perfect conference record of 9-0. The Lions are going for their third AMCC women's volleyball title. They will be led by sophomore setter Kristi Batzel who leads the AMCC in assists per set with 8.71 and is fourth in service aces per set with 0.40, with help from senior libero Emily Frye, who is second in digs per set with 4.42.

Franciscan, with a 7-2 conference record, enters the tournament as the #2 seed. Junior libero Sam Kelly, former AMCC Player of the Week and ECAC South Libero of the Week, leads the conference in digs per set with 5.11 and is second with 445 total digs.

Medaille, with a 6-3 record, has earned the third seed. Junior setter and AMCC Co-Preseason Player of the Year, Simmone Talford, is the all-time assist leader for the Lady Mavs.  She ranks second in the conference in assists per set with 8.11.

Pitt-Bradford, with a 5-4 record, comes into the tournament as the #4 seed. AMCC Co-Preseaon Player of the Year, Taylor McMillen, leads the way for the Panthers as she is tops in the conference in kills (368) and kills per set (3.47), and is second in the conference with a .270 hitting percentage.

2013 AMCC Champions Penn St. Behrend is the #5 seed, also with a 5-4 record. Three-time AMCC Player of the Week Alyssa Samarco ranks second in the conferece in total kills with 347, third in kills per set with 3.21, and fifth in total digs with 432.

Rounding out the tournament is La Roche, the #6 seed with an identical 5-4 record. The Redhawks are led by former AMCC Player of the Week Tori Pernell who leads the conference with a .307 hitting percentage and is tops in blocks per set with 0.93.

The first round matches will be Wednesday at 7pm, with #6 La Roche at #3 Medaille and #5 Penn St. Behrend at #4 Pitt-Bradford.  The AMCC championship weekend will take place at Penn St. Altoona.  The semifinals on Saturday will feature Penn St. Altoona vs. the 4v5 winner at 2p and Franciscan taking on the 3v6 winner at 4:30p.  The finals will be Sunday at 1p.  The champion will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.
