The AMCC women's tennis championship tournament kicks off this Saturday at Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford, PA. Top seed Pitt-Greensburg will take on No. 4 Penn State Altoona at 2:30pm, while No. 2 Penn State Behrend will face No. 3 Medaille College following the first match.
Top-seeded Pitt-Greensburg complied a perfect 6-0 record in conference play. Sophomores Amber Sterrett and Abigail Rosman each went 6-0 in singles play for the Bobcats. The duo also teamed up to go 4-0 at the No. 2 doubles spot. Sophomore Emily Ruhlman, the reigning AMCC Player of the Year, went 3-0 in both singles and doubles action before sustaining an injury that kept her out the remainder of the regular season.
Penn State Behrend enters the tournament as the second seed with a 7-1 conference mark, dropping their only match to Pitt-Greensburg. Sophomore Audra Carnes led the Lions with a 5-0 record in singles play, while teaming up with junior Erica Jasinski to go 5-1 at the No.1 doubles spot. Jaskinski and senior Marissa Bowles each went 5-1 at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spots, respectively.
Medaille has earned the No. 3 seed with with a 4-2 record in conference play. The Mavs were led by freshman Emily Jablosnki with a 5-1 record at the No. 5 singles spot. Doubles pair Hallie Dworzanski and Jasmine Mott picked up the 5-1 record in the top doubles spot for the Mavericks.
Rounding out the field with a 3-3 record is No. 4 Penn State Altoona. Juniors Jenna Bartlett and Stephanie Swain went 3-2 in doubles play to the lead the Lions this season.
The winners of Saturday's matches will square off on Sunday at 1:30pm for the AMCC Championship.
