FRANCISCAN, PENN ST. ALTOONA TO CLASH IN WOMEN'S TENNIS FINAL

Defending champion Franciscan University will take on #2 Penn St. Altoona in the finals of the AMCC women's tennis championship tournament on Sunday.

The top seeded Barons, who did not drop a conference match at any position all season, swept the #5 seed Pitt-Greensburg, 5-0.  After taking all three doubles matches, #2 singles Maria Binette and #3 Grace Hammel earned the decisive final two points.

In the closely contested second semifinal, Penn St. Altoona took an early 2-1 lead ater winning #2 and #3 doubles.  Altoona took victories at #4 singles (Annie Ruggles), #5 singles (Patricia Whelan) and #6 singles (Tori Acker) to seal the win.

The championship match will be at 12:30p at Westwood Racquet Club in Erie, PA.  The winner will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament in May.
