The Franciscan University women's tennis wrapped up its season at the NCAA tournament as Kenyon College won the first-round match, 5-0, Friday afternoon.
The Lady Barons started off strong in doubles, but Kenyon was able to pull away from Franciscan to start off the match up 3-0 after doubles. No. 1 doubles partners, freshmen Madelyn Conrad and Grace Hammel, were the first two off the courts with an 8-0 loss. Junior Maggie Vader Woude and sophomore Julia Razook battled their No. 2 competitors as they took a set from Grace Winslow and Maggie Sweeney, but the Keynon doubles team closed out the match for an 8-1 win. Senior captain Claire Haddad and No. 3 doubles partner Emmy Mathias kept pace with Alyssa Moreau and Mara Kaspers as they trailed 4-2, but Kenyon finished off the match with four straight points to win 8-2.
After dropping her first singles match 6-0, Vander Woude was able to take a set from Winslow at No. 5 singles and was the only Lady Baron to pick up a set with in singles action. Winslow closed out the match with a 6-1 win to win the fourth point for Kenyon.
Conrad gave her singles opponent all she could handle at No. 1 singles but despite a strong effort on the first court, did take a set as Diane Aboubakare win 6-0, 6-0 to seal the 5-0 win for Kenyon.
