PENN ST. ALTOONA'S BRAYLEY LEWIS NAMED ECAC DIVISION III ROOKIE OF THE MONTH

Penn State Altoona freshman Brayley Lewis was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference's Division III Rookie of the Month in women's tennis on Monday.

Lewis becomes the first player in Penn State Altoona women's tennis program history to pick up an ECAC Division III Rookie of the Month award.

During the month of September, Lewis posted a 6-3 overall record in singles and a 5-4 overall record in doubles. Against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponents, the freshman was 6-1 in singles matches and 5-2 in doubles play.

In singles, Lewis played eight of her nine matches in the No. 2 slot, where she went 5-3 overall. She opened her collegiate career with five straight No. 2 singles victories against AMCC opponents Mount Aloysius College, Pitt-Greensburg, Penn State Behrend, D'Youville College, and Medaille College. Lewis also posted a win in No. 1 singles against AMCC foe Pitt-Bradford.

In doubles, Lewis competed mainly in the No. 1 flight, where she posted a 4-3 mark in September. Her four No. 1 doubles wins came alongside partner Michelle Colucci (Middletown, NJ/St. John Vianney), and the duo knocked off their opponents from AMCC schools Pitt-Greensburg, D'Youville, Medaille, and top AMCC seed Franciscan University. In a No. 2 doubles match against Pitt-Bradford, Lewis teamed up with Annie Ruggles (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) for another win.

Lewis is tied with Colucci and Ruggles for the most singles wins on the Penn State Altoona squad with six, and she has the third-most doubles victories on her team with five.

Penn State Altoona women's tennis has earned the fourth seed in the upcoming AMCC Tournament and will host fifth-seeded Pitt-Greensburg for a first round playoff match this Saturday, October 8 at 1:00 p.m. at ProCare Fitness Center in Altoona.
