The field is set for the 2016 AMCC women's tennis championship, which will feature #1 Franciscan University and #2 Penn State Behrend.
In the first semifinal match of the day, #1 Franciscan University picked up the 5-2 win over #4 Penn State Altoona. The Barons took an early 2-1 lead after doubles play. No. 2 doubles partners Madelyn Conrad and Grace Hammel picked up the 8-3 victory, while No. 3 partners Maggie Vander Woude and Taranee Karimpour secured the 8-3 win. Penn State Altoona picked up its only win in doubles action at the No. 1 spot, with Michelle Colucci and Bayley Lewis winning 8-4. In singles play, Franciscan's No. 5 Maggie Vander Woude was the first off the court, claiming the 6-1, 6-0 victory. No. 4 Claire Haddad was next, winning 6-2, 6-2, and No. 6 Erin Coyne sealed the deal for the Barons, winning 6-1, 6-3 over her oppnonent. Penn State Altoona freshman, No.. 2 Bayley Lewis, picked up the only singles victory for the Lions, winning 6-2, 6-2.
The second semifinal match featured #2 Penn St. Behrend jumping out to a 2-1 lead over #3 La Roche after doubles play. No. 2 doubles partners Celeste Bentley and Kelly Miller picked up the quick 8-0 victory, followed by No. 1 Chelsea Czerwinski and Jacqueline Cannella with the 8-3 win. La Roche's Monique Cooper and Chardai Guthrie kept the Redhawks in the match by securing an 8-5 victory at No. 3 doubles. The Lions took charge of singles and put the match away, beginning with Czerwinski at No. 1 singles and her quick 6-0, 6-0 victory. No. 5 Miller was next off the court with 6-2, 6-0 victories and Bentley gave the Lions the victory with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 3 spot.
The AMCC championship match will take place tomorrow, Sunday, October 16, at 11:30 a.m. at The Club/Sport and Health in Monroeville, PA.
