ELIZABETHTOWN DEFEATS BEHREND WOMEN'S TENNIS IN NCAA FIRST ROUND

The Elizabethtown women's tennis team defeated Penn State Behrend 5-1 in the first round of the 2016 NCAA Division III Championships held at the Proctor Tennis Courts on the campus of Middlebury College.

The Blue Jays (16-3) picked up two doubles wins and then finished the match by winning No. 2, 3 and 4 singles matches to advance to the next round.

Elizabethtown earned an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles, before sophomore Celeste Bentley and freshman Kelly Miller tied the match at 1-all with an 8-3 victory over Meghan Chemidlin and Laura Gribble. The Blue Jays took a slight lead after doubles thanks to an 8-2 decision at the No. 2 spot.

A 2-1 lead quickly turned into a 4-1 advantage with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles (Madison McCall def. freshman Kat McDonough) and a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles (Lauren Berry def. Jacqueline Cannella).

Sam Procak gave Elizabethtown the final singles win at No. 4 to secure the match. Procak defeated Bentley 6-3, 6-0 for a 5-1 final. The Lions (15-9) had nearly split sets at No. 5 and 6 singles that were suspended due to the order of finish.
