BEHREND BATTLES TO 11TH SWIMMING/DIVING CROWN

In a closely contested battle, Penn St. Behrend outlasted Alfred State College to earn their 11th AMCC women's swimming and diving championship.

The Lions posted wins in the 1650 freestyle (Marcella Puglia), 100 freestyle (Jessica Wyckoff), and 200 breaststroke (Barbie Cessar) to provide the winning margin of victory. Puglia set a new AMCC Meet and Open record, while Wyckoff's repeat victory in the 100 freestyle gave her her third individual championship of the meet. Wyckoff, Paola Maldonado, Abigail Witmer and Puglia went out in style in the final 400 freestyle relay. The foursome won with a time of 3:40.29 to set three new records; the team, AMCC Meet and Open records  

Runner up Alfred State was led by Jessie LaRue who claimed her second AMCC title, as she won the 200 backstroke in 2:11.64. Kathryn Lewis was second in the 1650 (18:50.08) while Kelsey Lynch was second in the 200 fly (2:34.78). The 400 free relay team of LaRue, Elizabeth Drake, Lewis, and Megan Hendershot finished 2nd in 3:53.68.

For the first time, the conference announced their season award winners at the meet.  Honorees were selected based on points scored at the championship.  The 2018-19 winners are:

Swimmer of the Year:  Jessica Wyckoff, Penn St. Behrend

Diver of the Year: Sarah Stevens, Alfred State College

Newcomer of the Year: Marcella Puglia, Penn St. Behrend

Coach of the Year: Chris Zedick, Franciscan University
