BEHREND, WOMEN HANG ON TO LEAD AFTER DAY 3 OF SWIM CHAMPIONSHIP

With three days of competition in the books, Penn St. Behrend holds a 52 point lead over Alfred State College at the AMCC women's swimming and diving championship.

The Pioneers closed the gap slightly by picking up 41 points in 1 meter diving, the final event of the day, to position themselves for a chance at a final run on Saturday.  They got a 1-2-3 finish from defending champion Sarah Stevens, Rebecca Stevens and Leaha Langerman.

The Lions padded their lead with first place finishes in the 200 medley relay, the 400 individual medley (Marcella Puglia), the 200 freestyle (Jessica Wyckoff), and the 100 breaststroke (Barbie Cessar).

Penn St. Altoona sophomore Danielle Bye took the gold in the 100 butterfly while Franciscan freshman Emily Reuwer posted the fastest time in the 100 backstroke.

The standings with one day remaining are Behrend (465), Alfred State (413), Franciscan University (233), Penn St. Altoona (122), Pitt-Bradford (9) and SUNY Delhi (2).

Competition will resume with preliminaries Saturday morning at 10am at the Junker Center in Erie, PA and finals starting at 6pm.
