WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING PREPARES FOR FIRST STAND-ALONE CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

In conjunction with the AMCC celebrating its 20th anniverary this year, the conference is proud to announce that it will be hosting its first stand-alone swimming and diving conference championship meet this year. For the past 10 years, since swimming and diving was added as a conference sport, the AMCC has teamed up with the Presidents' Athletic Conference to conduct a joint championship. The 2017 championship event will be held February 8-11 at the Penn State Behrend Junker Center, with the diving events leading off on Wednesday evening. The Behrend Lions are aiming for their 10th conference title.

Penn State Behrend, back-to-back conference champion, is led by junior Maryn Horn who sits at the top of the AMCC top-times list in three different categories. Horn is tops in the conference in the 50 free (24.70), 100 free (55.11), and the 100 back (1:01.71). Fellow junior teammate, Gwen Lowery, is tops in two categories, the 200 individual medley (2:16.82) and 400 individual medley (5:01.57). Lowery also finds herself in the top three in the 50 free (25.86), 100 free (55.74), 200 free (2:02.14), and the 200 butterfly (2:32.34).

Cabrini University, 2016 runner-up, features senior Christina Melchiorre, who appears in the AMCC's top-times list an impressive eight times. Melchiorre boasts the fastest times in the 200 free (1:58.43), 500 free (5:24.93), the 1000 free (11:20.17), and the 1650 free (19:13.59), while she has the second-fastest times in the 50 free (25.71) and the 100 free (55.51).

Pitt-Bradford finished the 2016 championship in third place and is led by senior Liz Prager. Prager can also be found on the top-times list eight times, with three of those being the second-best times in the conference, including  the 1650 freestyle (19:15.34), 200 back (1:04.76), and the 400 individual medley (5:02.88).

Penn State Altoona has seen great production from freshman Paetyn Zeamer this season. Zeamer has worked her way onto the top-times list in six different categories, including a second-best time in the 100 individual medley (1:10.22) and a third-best time in the 400 individual medley (5:05.64).

Franciscan University is once again led by junior Elizabeth McNulty. McNulty features the AMCC top time in the 100 butterfly (1:02.00), 200 butterfly (2:15.67), and the 100 indivual medley (1:06.26) and has the second-best time in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.52) and 200 individual medley (2:19.00).

The AMCC is also excited to welcome the Alfred State Pioneers, who joined the AMCC as an affiliate member in the sports of men's and women's swimming and diving this season. Sophomore Alley Sell is quickly making a name for herself in the new conference. She has earned eight spots on the AMCC top-times list, including top spots in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.68) and the 200 breaststroke (2:38.12).
