PIETROPOLA, COTTON, AND MERRILL TAKE TOP HONORS ON WOMEN'S SWIMMING ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM

Penn St. Behrend sophomore Mia Pietropola was named the AMCC Women's Swimmer of the Year, while Lion freshman Rachel Cotton was named the Diver of the Year, and Cabrini College's Casey Merrill was Newcomer of the Year.

Pietropola, a three-time AMCC Swimmer of the Week, had a record breaking year for Behrend. She was a consistent dual meet scorer for the Lions. Pietropola started her record breaking frenzy at the mid-winter meet breaking the AMCC and school records twice in three hours in the 200 IM. She then came back the next day to break the 100 breaststroke record. She continued her record breaking at the AMCC championships by breaking the school and AMCC records with wins in the 200 IM, 100 and 200 breaststroke, breaking each record twice. Within the invite, Mia placed third in the 200 IM (2:10.31), and second in both the 100 breast (1:06.40) and 200 breast (2:25.93). She was also part of four AMCC championship relay teams, breaking yet another AMCC and school record in the 200 free relay. For the second time in as many years, Pietropola shared high point honors at the AMCC championship meet.

Cotton had a solid year on the boards for Penn St. Behrend. At the AMCC championship meet, she placed first on 3m and second on 1m (8th and 11th, respectively, at the invite). Her scores throughout the year put her on the Behrend Top 10 list. Cotton is currently third on both boards behind two NCAA qualifiers, while her 3m score was a top two freshman score.

Despite a major shoulder injury that will require surgery this spring, Newcomer of the Year Casey Merrill was a major contributor to the Cabrini women’s team this season. She helped lead the Cavaliers to their best dual meet record since the 2008-09 season. Merrill was named the ECAC South Rookie of the Week for the week ending November 30. During the dual meet season, Merrill placed first in 11 swims, second in 10 swims and third in three swims. For her freshman campaign, she holds team-best times in the 1650 free, 100 fly, 200 fly and 400 IM. At the AMCC Championships, Merrill placed first in the 400 IM and 1650 free, breaking school records in both events. She qualified for the Top 16 overall in the 400 IM. She was also a member of the AMCC first place 800 free relay, which also broke a school record. Merrill added a third place finish in the 500 Free. Additionally, she was part of two relays that placed second in the AMCC – the 200 free relay and the 200 medley relay; the free relay qualified for ECACs and the medley relay broke a six-year-old school record.

Jen Wallace of Penn St. Behrend was named the Women's Coach of the Year. She led the Lions to a 2015 first place finish after placing third in 2014.
