#3 MOUNT ALOYSIUS, #4 D'YOUVILLE PICK UP WOMEN'S SOCCER FIRST ROUND VICTORIES

The higher seeds prevailed in women's soccer first round action as #4 D'Youville College defeated #5 Penn State Altoona, 2-1, and #3 Mount Aloysius College earned the 1-0 victory over #6 Franciscan University.

D'Youville scored the game's first goal at the 1:44 mark, when Marina Campbell converted a penalty kick that was awarded to the Lady Spartans for a hand ball called inside the box. Altoona knotted things up midway through the first half, when Kierra Irwin's free kick found Mancini, who headed the ball into the net at 28:15 to tie the score 1-1. D'Youville scored the go-ahead goal with under 10 minutes remaining when Makenna Magee found Jordan Pacha with a pass, and Pacha's shot from outside the top of the box beat the keeper at 81:22 to put the home team up 2-1.

With just over five minutes remaining, Mountie junior Brianna Byler came through in the clutch. Byler was able to get an opening through the Baron defense and put a shot into the top left corner of the goal, for the only tally of the game. Mount Aloysius goalkeeper Lauren Davey got the win in goal for the Mounties, as she stopped both shots that she faced.

Semifinal games will take place on Wednesday, November 6 when #1 Pitt-Greensburg hosts #4 D'Youville and and #2 Penn State Behrend hosts #3 Mount Aloysius.
