FRANCISCAN, D'YOUVILLE WOMEN EARN FIRST ROUND VICTORIES

In AMCC women's soccer action, #3 Franciscan University and #4 D'Youville College each earned first round victories to advance to the semifinal round to be played on Wednesday afternoon.

#3 Franciscan d. #6 Pitt-Greensburg, 4-3
Trailing 3-2 later in the second half, Franciscan netted two goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation to defeat the Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team. Pitt-Greensburg senior Camille Hickman's strike from just outside the 18-yard box broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Bobcats a 3-2 lead with just over 20 minutes remaining in regulation. The Barons would use some late magic to upend the upset minded Bobcats. Franciscan forward Gracie Tillman tied the match in the 80th minute, as Pitt-Greensburg keeper Shannon Edwards saved an inital attempt from Baron forward Emily Wieszczek, but Tillman managed to corralle the rebound and tie the game with 10 minutes remaining in regulation. It looked as if the game was headed for overtime as the two sides remained tied at three, but Wiezczek took a pass from senior midfielder Clare Kennedy and her shot found the back of the net to life the Barons to the 4-3 comeback win. Franciscan will travel to #2 Mount Aloysius College on Wednesday for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.

#4 D'Youville d. #5 La Roche, 2-1
D'Youville College struck first as the Redhawks conceded an own goal in the twelfth minute of the game. The Spartans won a corner kick and freshman forward Magan Magee deflected a high curling cross off a La Roche defender and in for a 1-0 lead. D'Youville increased the pressure with their second goal just three minutes later. Magee was in on the scoring again heading in a cross inside the six-yard box. La Roche junior defender Marissa Johnson cut the deficit to just one in the sixty-second minute. D'Youville tried to clear but Johnson stepped in front of the ball and sent a left footed strike over the reaching hand of Spartan goalkeeper Megan Dulniak. That was all the closer La Roche could get as the Spartans hung on to their 2-1 lead. D'Youville will travel to top-seeded Penn State Behrend on Wednesday for a 4:30 p.m. start.
