THREE SPARTANS NAMED ALL-IWLS SELECTIONS

Three members of the D'Youville College women's lacrosse team were named All-Independent Women's Lacrosse Schools (IWLS) selections in the team's inaugural season.

The team's two captains were named second team selections to highlight the team's awards. Juniors Jillian Golding and Callan Smith led the team in their first NCAA season.

Golding was the top offensive threat for D'Youville throughout the season. The midfielder led the team in nearly every major category, including first in goals (29), points (34), draw controls (35), shots (64), shots on goals (46) and caused turnovers (18). Golding was also second on the team in assists (5), but also led the team in free position goals (7).

In all but one game this season, Golding led the team in goals. She has scored at least two goals in the final seven games of the season in which she played, including being named IWLS Offensive Player of the Week after tallying eight goals, three assists, 11 points and eight draw controls against Alfred University.

Smith has been one of the most reliable players on the team throughout the season and has helped transition many of the inexperienced players to reliable starters. Smith scored three goals throughout the season as a defender, totaling three points. Against Hilbert earlier this season, Smith register six ground balls, five caused turnovers and grabbed one draw control.

As a defender, Smith's experience and reliability were huge for a young team. She was second on the team in caused turnovers (14) but led the team in ground balls (21). Her three goals were tied for fourth on the team but her leadership was constant and made a huge impact on the team.

Rounding out the team's awards from the IWLS was fellow junior Shannon Robillard who was named an honorable mention defenseman.

Robillard collected the fifth most ground balls on the team (17), contributing the sixth most caused turnovers (6) on the roster. She added a consistent presence on the back end for the Spartans. Her positioning and aggressiveness helped anchor the team's defense.
