AMCC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL GAME OF THE WEEK: HILBERT @ LA ROCHE

AMCC Women's Basketball Game of the Week:
Hilbert College @ La Roche University
Saturday, January 18 at 4:00 p.m.

The AMCC women's basketball Game of the Week features the top two teams in the conference, as the 8-1 Hilbert College Hawks travel to Pittsburgh, PA to take on the 9-0 La Roche University Redhawks.

The Hilbert women’s basketball team is riding a nine-game win streak after they claimed a 63-60 victory against Penn State Behrend January 15.  The 11-3 Hawks sit in second place (8-1) behind the undefeated Redhawks. Senior guards, Taylor Corts and Emily Gawlak, who average major minutes, continue to pace the offense with a 17.0 and 16.9 ppg averages.  Gawlak can score in spurts in transition, off the bounce and behind the arc.  Corts positions herself in the paint as easily as she unloads from downtown. Senior Ashley Repine, working her way back from an off-season injury, can cause damage near the rim and freshman Macy Kisner is an athletic weapon on both offense and defense. Offensively, both teams average 65 ppg but the Redhawks limit their opponents to 60.0 ppg while the Hawks hold opponents to 61.7 ppg. La Roche holds a 16-2 record over Hilbert, but the Hawks have gone 2-1 in their last three meetings.

The La Roche women’s basketball team, currently 9-0 vs. AMCC opponents, enters Saturday’s home game against Hilbert at the top of the standings as the only team still undefeated in conference play. The Redhawks own a 16-2 record against the Hawks dating back to the 2009-10 season. Against the conference, LRU has averaged 71.6 points per game (2nd in AMCC) while holding their opponents to 56.4 points per game. The Redhawks offense has been efficient in AMCC action as well, shooting 45% from the field (1st in AMCC) and 35% from beyond the arc (2nd in AMCC). The well-balanced unit has five scorers averaging between 9.8 and 12.5 points per game. In nine conference games, senior forward Jenna Cole has averaged a team-high 14.4 points per game and leads the conference at the line, knocking down 22 of 24 (92%) free throws thus far. Dasja Anderson most recently scored a career-high 24 points in route to a 57-47 victory at Franciscan, the most points scored by a Redhawk in a single game this season. Anderson ranks fourth in the conference in field goal percentage (48%). Ayanna Mazyck ranks first on the squad in rebounds per game (7.8) and ranks third in points per game (11.8). Shaundrea Butler ranks first on the team in assists per game (4.2). La Roche has averaged 10.0 steals per game (2nd in AMCC) led by Mazyck who averages 3.0 steals per game (1st in AMCC).
