The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford has named longtime Frostburg State assistant men’s basketball coach Sean Brown Sr. as its new women’s basketball coach. Brown succeeds Patrick Daniel, who led the Panthers to a 47-30 record during his three-season tenure at UPB before accepting the head coach position at Goucher College.
“We are very excited to have Coach Brown back in the AMCC and as a part of our athletic family,” said Lori Mazza, director of athletics and recreational sports. “With the experience he brings, both on the floor and on the recruiting trail, I am confident he will lead our program to new heights.”
Brown comes to Pitt-Bradford after spending eight seasons as the top assistant of the Frostburg State men’s basketball program. He also spent two years as an assistant coach at South Side Academy in Baltimore where he was responsible for player development while also monitoring academics and assisting with the scheduling of practices.
“I am extremely excited to be given the opportunity to be the head women's basketball coach at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. I'm confident in the players we have coming back and am looking forward to bringing in a strong recruiting class that will continue to represent the program well on and off the court," said Brown.
During his tenure at Frostburg State, Brown has helped the Bobcats to two appearances in the AMCC Tournament (2008-09, 2009-10) and then two showings in the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament (2011-12, 2012-13).
In addition to his years of coaching experience, Brown was also an outstanding player at Frostburg State. He began his playing career at Frostburg State in 1997-98 and then transferred to Prince George’s Community College, earning team MVP honors for averaging 14 points and seven assists per game as a sophomore.
He then returned to Frostburg State and helped the Bobcats to a 36-22 record in his final two seasons, which included an AMCC Championship his junior year. He was an AMCC Honorable mention after averaging 11.8 ppg while also leading the team in steals (66), assists (167) and three-point percentage (46.2).
As a senior, he led the Bobcats to a runner-up finish in the AMCC Tournament. He was a first team All-AMCC selection, averaging 15.6 points and 5.6 assists per game while also leading the Bobcats on the defensive end with 69 steals.
Brown holds a bachelor’s degree in recreation and parks management and a master’s degree in education from Frostburg State. He and his wife Jennifer have two sons, Sean Jr. and Jalen, and one daughter, Chloe.
