The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford has named longtime Frostburg State University assistant men’s basketball coach Sean Brown Sr. as its new women’s basketball coach.
All institution sport teams which compete for an AMCC championship may select one member from their team who displays good sportsmanship throughout the season to be a member of the All-AMCC Sportsmanship Team.
The AMCC has placed seven women's basketball student-athletes in the top 50 nationally in the following statistical categories for all games during the 2014-15 season.
Players and coaches from Penn State Altoona's men's and women's basketball teams volunteered in the 4th Annual Central Blair Recreation and Park Commission Basketball Clinic on Saturday, helping to provide basketball instruction to local youth and raise money for the CBRC's scholarship funds.
AMCC women's basketball champion La Roche College (22-5, 17-1 AMCC) will face Eastern Mennonite University (22-4, 15-1 ODAC) on Friday, March 6 at Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, KY.
Biddle was the major driving force behind the Bobcats playoff push. Biddle averaged 22 points per game on an impressive 61% shooting. She'd also average 9 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, and 1.3 steals over the three playoff games to help Pitt-Greensburg reach the AMCC Championship game.
The Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats and Penn St. Altoona Lions both claimed victories Tuesday evening in the first round of the AMCC women's basketball tournament and will advance to the semi-finals.
Schriner continued to bring an offensive spark to the Barons' basketball team. Against LaRoche, she scored 25 points, led the team in rebounds with seven, and added four steals and two assists. Against D'Youville, she scored 21 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists. She did this while shooting 16-30 from the field and 10-12 from the line. FUS was down two at the half against D'Youville before Schriner poured in 15 in the second half helping to lead the team to a victory and secure a post-season berth. This week, she averaged 23 points, 6.5 rebounds, and four steals. She also helped her team make school history by earning Franciscan's first trip to the AMCC Tournament.
The AMCC women's basketball tournament will tip off Tuesday evening when #6 Franciscan University travels to #3 Pitt-Greensburg and #5 Medaille College goes to #4 Penn St. Altoona.
Kimmel had a season-high 26 points and added nine rebounds against D'Youville. Kimmel then went on to score 16 points as the Panthers won on the road against AMCC #1 ranked La Roche in the women's Game of the Week. For the week, Kimmel averaged 21 ppg and 8.5 rpg. Kimmel currently ranks fourth in the AMCC in scoring with 16.2 ppg and is second in field goal percentage with 51.5.
Just like on the men's side, the AMCC Women's Basketball Game of the Week will also feature the the top two teams in the conference, the La Roche Lady Redhawks (17-4, 14-0 AMCC) and the Pitt-Bradford Lady Panthers (14-6, 11-3 AMCC)
Corrigan continued her strong play for the Lady Lions during a 1-1 week of AMCC action. In a win over Mount Aloysius, she scored 21 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and blocked three shots. In a loss to Pitt-Bradford, she scored 20 points to go along with 12 rebounds and two blocks. On the week, she averaged 20.5 points per game, 10.0 rebounds per game, and 2.5 blocks per game while shooting 55.2% from the field. Her 17 double-doubles so far this season rank second in the NCAA Division III.
The Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats won a thrilling overtime victory over the Medaille Mavericks in the two teams' first meeting on January 10. Both teams are in the thick of the playoff race and are fighting for priority seeding heading into the conference tournament.
Biddle was the driving force in two AMCC wins last week. The Senior forward averaged 22.5 points per game on 63% (19-30) shooting from the field and 100% (7-7) from the free throw line. She'd also average 10.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and two blocks against the AMCC's #2 and #4 teams. Biddle is leading the conference in field goal percentage with 55.4.
These Penn St. system siblings are on the rise in conference play, and both would like to earn this win to gain better footing on the AMCC playoff ladder.
White averaged 14.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 6.0 assists in a 3-0 week. She had a career-high 15 rebounds against Penn State Altoona and a season-high eight assists against Franciscan.
Burke averaged 24.5 points on 50 percent shooting from the floor. She registered her fourth 30-point game vs. the Mounties to help the Lions get their second conference victory. She was also perfect from the free-throw line (10-for-10) and averaged 6.5 rebounds.
Pitt Bradford senior forward Alicia Kimmel has been selected to the 2015 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) “So You Want To Be A Coach” program, as announced by the WBCA.
Howe averaged 20.3 points per game and 10.3 rebounds per game in a 1-2 week for the Lady Mavs. The senior currently ranks seventh in the AMCC in points per game with 14.4 and ranks fourth in rebounds per game with 9.5.
Pitt-Bradford senior forward Alicia Kimmel led the Panthers to a 1-1 week, recording 20.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2.0 apg and 4.5 spg. Against Lebanon Valley she shot 55.6% in scoring 23 points. She led the team in a conference win over Penn St. Behrend with a double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds) and six steals. Kimmel is currently ranked fifth in the conference in scoring with 15.7 ppg.
