The AMCC Men's Volleyball Game of the Week features the Geneva College Golden Tornadoes traveling to Erie, PA on Saturday to take on the Penn State Behrend Lions. Geneva is currently 3-0 in conference play, while Penn State Behrend carries a 2-1 record.

Geneva picked up a big five-set victory over Penn State Altoona on Wednesday night to move its AMCC record to 3-0. Geneva’s block was big in the game, finishing with 17 team blocks, including 11 from freshman Daniel Spear.  Freshman Owen Kelley, who along with senior Carter Milroy have led the Geneva attack this year, led the team with 14 kills against Altoona.  That Altoona match began a stretch of four straight AMCC matches for the Golden Tornadoes against teams that are in the top half of the conference, making this two-week stretch an important one for Geneva’s chances to qualify for the AMCC tournament at the end of the year.

Behrend is in a tie for third place in the AMCC with a 2-1 conference mark. The Lions are 7-11 overall and are coming off a pair of wins over Spring Break. Behrend tallied a pair of straight set wins on the road over Mount Aloysius and Wilson. Over the two wins, the Lions tallied 12.50 kills, 11.33 assists and 8.0 digs per set. Behrend has won the first set in all three conference matches so far this season. As a team, the Lions are ranked fifth in Division III statistics in blocks per set (2.328). Middle hitter Lewis Rhodes is also individually ranked fifth in blocks per set (1.158). Owen Wienczkowski, who leads the AMCC in hitting percentage, ranks 19th in the NCAA with a .409 percentage. Wienczkowski has 127 kills on 247 attempts with 26 errors in 50 sets played. Senior setter Alex Jackson is 45 assists away from reaching 2,000 for his career.
