WITTENBERG SET TO HOST MEN'S VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT THIS WEEKEND

The Wittenberg University men's volleyball team claimed the AMCC regular season title and earned hosting rights to the first-ever AMCC men's volleyball championship tournament since the conference has expanded to include four affiliate members. Game one will kick off Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. with #1 Wittenberg squaring off with #4 Penn St. Behrend, while #2 Geneva College will take on #3 Thiel College at 8:30 p.m. Please note that the matches will take place at nearby Springfield High School (701 E. Home Road; Springfield, OH) as the Wittenberg main gymnasium is under construction.

Top-seeded Wittenberg (20-10, 11-3 AMCC) is led by AMCC Preseason Co-Player of the Year, middle hitter Isaiah Brock. Brock leads the AMCC with 1.05 blocks per set, while his .357 hitting percentage ranks second. Middle hitter Ashton Sellers leads the Tigers, and ranks second in the conference, with 2.98 kills per set. Setter Ross Russell also ranks second in the league with 0.35 service aces per set. 

Geneva College (20-8, 11-3 AMCC), in just their first season of varsity competition, has earned the #2 seed in the postseason tournament. The Golden Tornadoes are led by middle blocker Quinn McCracken who ranks second in the AMCC with 307 total kills and third with 2.87 kills per set. McCracken's 1.01 blocks per set puts him second in the conference. Outside hitter Anthony Baronio ranks fourth in the AMCC with 6.93 assists per set and fifth in total digs (258) and digs per set (2.53).

Entering the tournament as the #3 seed is Thiel College (15-12, 10-4 AMCC). Libero Ryan Sumarsono is tops in the conference with 349 total digs and 3.39 digs per set, while setter Stephen Borgen leads the way with 9.55 assists per set. Outside hitter Chance Hoffman leads the Tomcats, and ranks fourth in the conference, with 2.84 kills per set. 

Rounding out the field is #4 Penn St. Behrend (16-12, 8-6 AMCC). AMCC Preseason Co-Player of the Year Dillon Hildebrand leads the conference with 339 total kills and 3.49 kills per set, while middle hitter Cody Schnur swings at an AMCC-best .379 clip.

The winners from Friday night's matches will face off on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. to determine the AMCC champion.
