#3 MOUNT ALOYSIUS, #4 FRANCISCAN EARN WINS IN MEN'S SOCCER FIRST ROUND

The third-seeded Mount Aloysius College men's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory over #6 La Roche College, while #4 Franciscan University handed #5 D'Youville College a 6-1 loss in the first round of the AMCC men's soccer tournament. The Mounties and Barons each advance to the semifinals to be played on Wednesday, October 31.

La Roche struck first as Ximo Vicent provided the opening tally just six minutes into the game when he drilled a free kick from just outside the 18 yardline and into the back of the net. The Mounties found the equalizer in the twenty-eighth minute as Joshua Devlin collected a long ball and struck it for a 1-1 game. Mt. Aloysius grabbed the momentum and Pau Aran found the top right corner for a 2-1 lead late in the first half. The Mounties held on to their slim lead throughout the second half to claim the 2-1 victory. The Mounties will play at Medaille on Tuesday in the AMCC Tournament Semifinals.

Franciscan wasted little time to grab the lead as sophomore Sebastian Koehler scored just after the clock clicked past a minute into action. JP Bobak scored about 33 minutes later to give the Barons a 2-0 lead. D'Youville's Hunter Sherman scored his eighth goal of the season to bring the score to 2-1 at the half. The Barons stretched their lead to 6-1 throughout the second half as another goal by Bobak helped open the floodgates for the Barons. The Barons' season continues as they head to the top-seeded Penn St.-Behrend on Wednesday for a 7:30 pm AMCC semifinals match.
