PENN STATE ALTOONA TAKES LEAD AFTER DAY 1 OF AMCC MEN'S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

 

The Penn State Altoona men’s golf team sits in first place after the conclusion of Monday’s round in the two-day Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships at The Club at Nevillewood.

The Lions shot 327 as a team on the par 72 course to rank atop the seven conference teams. Mount Aloysius College is in second with 338, and Pitt-Bradford earned third place with 353. Penn State Behrend compiled a team score of 354 to rank fourth, Hilbert College sits fifth with 356, and La Roche University shot 383 to come in sixth. Pitt-Greensburg rounded out the field with 418 to place seventh.

Penn State Altoona's Trey Heffelfinger and Jack DiTrani paced the Lions' efforts on Monday, as each player shot a 6-over par 78 to tie for first place on the individual leaderboard out of 34 total golfers. Mount Aloysius' Luke Melisko sits in third with a 79, while the Mounties' Brian Walwro and Hilbert's Michael Petrus are tied for fourth with 82.

Pitt-Bradford's Broderick Kamuda shot an 83 for sixth place, while Penn State Altoona's Joey Toth carded an 85 for seventh place. With a score of 86, there was a four-way tie for eighth place, which includes Mount Aloysius' Nate Hryn, Pitt-Bradford's Connor Smith, Penn State Altoona's Peter Nusbaum, and Penn State Behrend's Jake Caldwell

Penn State Altoona will look to maintain its lead tomorrow, Tuesday, October 11, in the second and final day of the AMCC Championships. Tuesday's first tee times are set for 9:00 a.m.
