MEDAILLE DRAWS MARIETTA IN FIRST ROUND OF NCAA TOURNAMENT

With their automatic bid from winning the AMCC Championship, the Medaille College men's basketball team will travel to Marietta College for the first round of the NCAA tournament. Tip off is slated for Friday, March 4 at 7:20 p.m.

This is the Mavericks' sixth appearance in the NCAA Tournament with their last trip in 2017. The Mavs finished out the season with a 15-12 record, winning the AMCC Championship over La Roche University. With only 12 seconds on the clock, Kendall McGill drove in for the winning layup. The Mavs held the final seconds of the game for the victory.

Marietta, who finished the season 25-2, earned their bid by winning the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship over Mount Union. This is their tenth NCAA Tournament appearance. The last time these two teams faced off, Marietta took the win in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Mavs will look to avenge that loss.

In addition to the Mavericks advancing to the NCAA tournament, the Penn State Behrend and Penn State Altoona men's basketball teams have earned berths to the Eastern College Athletic Conference’s (ECAC) Division III Championship, which also tips off later this week.

The Penn State Behrend men's basketball team has been selected to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament as the No. 3 seeded team and will head to Newark, NJ for the quarterfinals this Friday. The Lions will head into the bracket following an AMCC Co-Regular Season Championship, concluding the regular season with a 13-3 conference mark. Behrend was eliminated in the semifinals by the eventual 2022 AMCC Champions, Medaille this past weekend. The Lions will open play on Friday, March 4 against Manhattanville College at 5 p.m. as Rutgers-Newark plays host for the tournament.

Penn State Altoona received the fourth seed in the 10-team bracket and gets a first-round bye. The Lions will enter the tournament in the quarterfinal round on Friday, March 4, facing the United States Merchant Marine Academy at 2:30 p.m. in Newark, N.J.  This is Penn State Altoona’s fifth ECAC postseason tournament berth in program history. Merchant Marine received the fifth seed in the ECAC tournament and, like Penn State Altoona, gets a first-round bye. The Mariners went 15-9 overall this season, including a 13-3 mark in the Skyline Conference that gave them the second seed in the conference tournament. Merchant Marine fell in overtime to seventh seed Mount Saint Vincent University in the Mariners’ first game of the conference tournament.
