LA ROCHE'S TYLER FREDERICK AWARDED USBWA NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) awarded the Division III National Player of the Week honor to La Roche University junior forward Tyler Frederick of the Redhawk men's basketball team on Tuesday afternoon. The last Redhawk to receive the prestigious award was TiChina Mitchell of the women's basketball team, she did so in December of 2015. 

The USBWA covers NCAA basketball across all-divisions and is revered as one of the most influential organizations in all of basketball. This weeks award spans from December 15th - January 5th due to the holiday break. 

"Frederick, a 6-4 junior forward from Butler, Pa., produced three double-doubles as La Roche (6-5, 6-0) won all three games it played. On Wednesday, December 18, Frederick scored 23 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and added two assists and a steal in the Redhawks' 78-62 win over Mt. Aloysius. He scored a career-high 34 to go with 12 rebounds, three steals and a block in an 89-73 win over Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday, December 21. Then, on Saturday, January 4, Frederick had 30 points, 19 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks in his team's 90-79 win against D'Youville. Over the three games, Frederick averaged 29 points, 14.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.0 blocks while shooting 66 percent (35-of-53) from the field, 70 percent (14-of-20) from the foul line and 30 percent (3-of-10) from three-point range. Currently eighth in NCAA Division III with 12.3 rebounds per game, Frederick was also named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Player of the Week." - USBWA

Frederick is the second AMCC student-athlete to receive the award this season (Hunter Martineau, Hilbert College).
