The La Roche College men’s basketball team used their
time over the holiday break to make a difference in many lives.
They volunteered at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank,
which is a non-profit organization that collects and distributes
food in 11 counties in southwestern Pennsylvania. The Food Bank has
been serving the public for 30 years and it currently distributes
around 27 million pounds of food per year.
With all of that food, they need volunteers to help organize and
assemble the boxes of food that is being sent out to the less
fortunate. The Redhawks assisted with packing approximately
1,000 boxes full of food that was sent to low income households
during the holiday season. The mission of the Greater Pittsburgh
Community Food Bank is to feed the hungry in southwestern
Pennsylvania through a network of partners and to mobilize our
region to end hunger.
