BOYER HONORED AS COLLEGIATE SUMMER BASEBALL ALL-AMERICAN

Rising senior Ryan Boyer of the Pitt-Bradford baseball team has been honored nationally for his stellar performance during summer baseball as a 2018 Perfect Game/Rawlings Summer Collegiate Second Team All-American, officials announced Thursday.

Perfect Game assesses the top talent nationwide to create three 17-man All-America teams and an Honorable Mention squad. The Cape Cod League earned the most honorees with 11. Boyer's league, the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) saw six of its players honored.

The Perfect Game/Rawlings Summer Collegiate All-America Teams are occupied by mostly Division I talent. Boyer is one of just two Division III players honored in the first two All-America teams.

Boyer spent his summer playing for the Jamestown Jammers of the PGCBL. He helped the Jammers to the franchise's first-ever league championship, earning the Finals Most Outstanding Player award for his stellar performance on the mound in the title series.

The Bradford native tossed 3.2 total innings in relief during the three-game championship series and was credited with both wins. He struck out nine of the 15 total batters he faced. Boyer was especially sharp in the closing innings of the deciding game, dealing 2.1 scoreless innings while five of the seven total outs he recorded came by way of a strikeout -- including the final out to clinch the championship.

The hurler put together a standout season as a whole, earning a spot on the league All-Star team as well as a spot on the All-League First Team at the conclusion of the season. He tied for second-most in the PGCBL with seven saves while striking out 37 batters in 19 appearances and 25 innings pitched. He posted a perfect 4-0 record and an exceptional 1.44 ERA on the mound for the Jammers all season.

During his junior season at Pitt-Bradford, Boyer was named to the All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Second Team. He led the Panthers' pitching staff with 58.2 innings pitched and struck out the third-most batters in the AMCC with 66 while posting a 4.45 ERA. He was named AMCC Pitcher of the Week twice.
