Rising senior Ryan Boyer of the Pitt-Bradford baseball team has been honored nationally for his stellar performance during summer baseball as a 2018 Perfect Game/Rawlings Summer Collegiate Second Team All-American, officials announced Thursday.
The Bradford native tossed 3.2 total innings in relief during the three-game championship series and was credited with both wins. He struck out nine of the 15 total batters he faced. Boyer was especially sharp in the closing innings of the deciding game, dealing 2.1 scoreless innings while five of the seven total outs he recorded came by way of a strikeout -- including the final out to clinch the championship.
The hurler put together a standout season as a whole, earning a spot on the league All-Star team as well as a spot on the All-League First Team at the conclusion of the season. He tied for second-most in the PGCBL with seven saves while striking out 37 batters in 19 appearances and 25 innings pitched. He posted a perfect 4-0 record and an exceptional 1.44 ERA on the mound for the Jammers all season.
During his junior season at Pitt-Bradford, Boyer was named to the All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Second Team. He led the Panthers' pitching staff with 58.2 innings pitched and struck out the third-most batters in the AMCC with 66 while posting a 4.45 ERA. He was named AMCC Pitcher of the Week twice.
