BEHREND, BRADFORD EARN ABCA TEAM ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AWARD

The Penn State Behrend and Pitt-Bradford baseball programs have been recognized as recipients of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award for the 2017-18 academic year.

The award honors high school and collegiate programs coached by ABCA members that post a grade-point average (GPA) over 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the current academic year. The Lions and Panthers were two of 77 NCAA Division III programs and the only member of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) to be honored.

Behrend posted a team GPA of 3.16 for the fall semester and 3.14 in the spring. Junior shortstop Scott Sada was named to the AMCC All-Academic Team and was selected to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Second Team for earning a 3.85 GPA in plastics engineering technology.

The Pitt-Bradford baseball team finished the 2017-18 school year with a team GPA of 3.138. Senior Brody Wood was honored by Pitt-Bradford Athletics this year with the Triangle of Success Award for his accomplishments on the field, in the classroom and in the community. Sophomore Tyler Hoops also took home honors by Pitt-Bradford Athletics as the 2017-18 Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
