AMCC STUDENT-ATHLETES SET TO COLLECT WARM CLOTHING FOR LESS FORTUNATE
As the temperatures in January continue to drop throughout the landscape of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC), the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be joining forces over the next two weeks to help keep the less fortunate warm this winter. The SAAC for Socks campaign will officially kick off on Saturday, January 19 and will continue through Saturday, February 2.

All AMCC SAAC committees are joining together in a community service campaign to collect winter socks, gloves, and hats to donate to local homeless shelters across the region. Socks are an extremely high-need item for homeless people, especially during the winter months, when there is the risk of frostbite. Homeless people often have shoes but no socks, and the danger often goes unnoticed until it is too late. While men's warm socks tend to be a high-need item, donations of socks, hats and gloves for any gender, any age are all very welcome.

Here is a brief overview of what AMCC member institutions are doing as part of the SAAC for Socks campaign:

D'Youville: The Spartans will begin their collection on Wednesday, January 30 at the Buffalo Cup basketball games against Medaille.
Franciscan: The Barons will have multiple bins in Finnegan Field House and the JC Williams Student Center throughout the two weeks of the campaign. They will also collect socks at their home basketball games and swimming meets during this time period.
Hilbert:The Hilbert SAAC will be doing the sock drive on January 19 and February 3 & 6. The athletic department will be buying the socks ahead of time for the public to purchase at the door. They will also be using winter socks in place of an entrance fee for some events and also conducting some fun halftime games.
Medaille: The Mavericks will collect winter socks at all home athletic events throughout the two week campaign.
Mount Aloysius: The Mounties will be collecting socks at their basketball games on January 23 and 26.
Penn St. Altoona: The Lions will have bins set up thoughout campus and will also collect at their home sporting events throughout the campaign.
