Women's Soccer Falls in 3-2 Play-off Defeat

Box Score ALTOONA, Pa. - The Hilbert College women's soccer team's impressive 2016 season came to a crashing end this afternoon after they fell in a heart-breaking 3-2 loss to Mt. Aloysius College.

The Hawks (9-7-1) earned the 5th seed in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play-offs for the second time since Hilbert joined the AMCC in 2004-05.  The women's soccer team has establishing itself as the most success women's program on campus having qualified for the post-season three times (2006, 5th; 2009, 7th, 2016, 5th).

The Hawks headed to halftime knotted 1-1 thanks to junior defender Brooklynn Gormel's first career marker at 44:56. Jackie Morgan served a ball that bounced around off both Hilbert and Mt. Aloysius player's feets before Gormal connected with literally seconds before the break.

Senior Imarie Waller, who scored her 5th career goal in the second half, cut the host's lead to a one-goal advantage with 12:58 left in the game. Jackie Morgan lobbed the ball over a defender which Waller chased down and converted off a 1v1 sitution.

Mt. Aloysius outshot the Hawks 20-9 with a 12-7 advantage on-goal and Jenna Castricone was credited with 10 saves in her 17th start of the season for Hilbert.

Coach Kelly Starchok, emotional after the game, had some very positive statements about her team.

"To say how proud I am as a coach wouldn't do justice about how I feel about this team and what these ladies did this season.  They fought their way into the playoffs and that wasn't an easy task."

Starchok brought it back to the team's goal all year, "They wrote their own future and that says it all about their character.  Unfortunately, as the game goes, today wasn't our day but the girls battled until the end."

"I want to thank our seniors for leaving it all on the field today and I hope they feel proud of the legacy they have created."

Twice this season Mt. Aloysius has beaten Hilbert by a single goal but today's game stings a little bit more as the Mounties' season continues.

#1 Penn State Behrend (9-0) will host Mt. Aloysius November 2 and #2 Pitt-Greensburg will play #3 Pitt-Bradford, who shut-out La Roche (1-0) in today's other 1st Round play-off game.

The AMCC Championship game will be played Saturday, November 5 at the highest-seeded team's home field after the semi-final games have concluded.
