Panthers Sweep Penn State-Dubois for 10th Straight Win

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford volleyball team picked up its 10th straight victory in a 3-set sweep over Penn State-Dubois on Wednesday night.

The Panthers got off to a slow start but prevailed in the first set 25-20. They returned to their recent form for the rest of the match, winning the last two sets 25-12 to secure the sweep.

  • The two teams remained close through the majority of the first. The Panthers fell behind 1-3 but quickly responded to tie the game and take the lead. They maintained a 4 point advantage until the Lady Lions were able to score five straight to take a lead at 18-19.
  • The Panthers took control from there, as they scored 7 out of 8 to close the set. Jordan Sitler had two kills in the rally and Pitt-Bradford had two service aces, one from Tabitha Walker and the other from Olivia Reese. Taylor King put down the final kill to end the set 25-20.
  • The second set began in a similar fashion to the first, but the Panthers took control with a four-point run with Tabitha Walker on the service line. 
  • Pitt-Bradford maintained the momentum later in the set, closing on an 8-2 run. Emily Cleveland had 5 kills on just 8 attacks in the set.
  • The Panthers continued to roll as the match moved into its third set, as they jumped out to a 10-3 lead. The early rally by the Panthers was highlighted by three straight Cleveland kills that forced a Penn State-Dubois timeout.
  • With the score 16-5, Stephanie Carson moved back to the service line and served the Panthers to 7 straight points. Carson had three aces in the run, while Olivia Reese and Kaitlyn Sexton added kills.
  • The Lady Lions were able to score seven points at the end of the set, but Emma King put down one final kill to end the match.

Emily Cleveland finished the match with 17 kills on just 28 attacks for a .536 hitting percentage. Jordan Sitler also had an efficient match, putting down 8 kills on 13 swings. She also had 3 block assists. Kaitlyn Sexton had a big night at the net, finishing the match with 6 kills and 5 total blocks. Tabitha Walker continued her impressive run of form, dishing out 31 assists. She also added 6 digs and 3 block assists to the defensive effort. Libero Kayla Maslowski led the Panthers in digs with 14. 

The Panthers are now 11-3 on the season. In their next game, the Panthers will kick off their AMCC conference schedule. On Saturday they will host a tri-match in KOA Arena. The day will begin with the Panthers playing AMCC foe Mount Aloysius. The visiting Mounties will then play Alfred University, and the day will finish with the Panthers taking on the Saxons. The games will begin at 12:00 p.m.
