BUFFALO, N.Y. — Juniors C.J. Napier (Miamisburg/Bishop Fenwick) and Adam Scott (Wapakoneta) led four Polar Bears in double-figure scoring as the Ohio Northern men's basketball team closed out its slate in the Buffalo State (N.Y.) Classic with a 78-70 victory over Medaille (N.Y.) on Saturday at the Sports Arena.
Napier tallied 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists while Scott added 17 points, six rebounds and three assists en route to being named to the All-Tournament Team.
Senior Brandon Waugh (Columbus/Northland) and sophomore Bryce Nolbertowicz (Waynesville) also scored in double figures for the Polar Bears (4-1 overall) with 12 and 11 points, respectively, while junior Michael Berner (Springboro) added nine points and six rebounds.
Rodney Graves tallied 21 points and nine rebounds to lead the Mavericks (1-3 overall), which also got 15 points from Kendall McGill, 13 from Daunte Wilcott and 12 from Travis Sanders.
The Polar Bears started the game on a 7-0 run via four points from Berner and a 3-pointer from Napier and later held a 12-2 edge.
A 3-pointer from Waugh gave ONU a 20-6 lead, and the Polar Bears used that strong start to propel them to a 46-27 halftime lead.
That strong first half proved key, as the Mavericks' comeback bid fell short despite outscoring the Polar Bears 43-32 in the second half.
