Panthers Blanked by Wildcats

Utica, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's soccer team played their second game in as many days on Sunday afternoon, falling to SUNY Poly 5-0 in Utica.

The Panthers struggled to keep possession against the Wildcats, as the ball spent the majority of play in the Panther end. Bailee Verdill was able to find enough space for a shot in the 9th minute, but it did not find the target. Jared Scarlett made 4 early saves in the Panther goal before he was beaten by an acrobatic effort that bounced off of the goalpost and into the net to open the scoring in the 19th minute. Poly doubled their lead just under four minutes later with a strike from inside the box. The Panthers stiffened up defensively after the second goal of the half, as Scarlett was forced into one more save and the game moved to the break with the Panthers trailing 2-0.

Verdill had the first shot on target for the Panthers in the 53rd minute but saw his effort saved by the Poly goalkeeper. The Wildcats took back possession after the shot, and used it to their advantage, adding their third goal in the 57th. They kept the pressure on the Panthers after the goal and scored again exactly two minutes later to push the lead to 4. Devin Stowe was able to find space for back-to-back shots in the 70th minute, but after they were not able to find the net, the Wildcats added their 5th goal of the game in the 77th.

Bailee Verdill and Devin Stowe each had two shots in the game, with Verdill putting one of his shots on target. Jared Scarlett made 7 saves in the loss.

The Panthers drop to 0-2 after the loss. They will play their first home game of the season on Wednesday evening, as they will host Alfred University at 7:00 p.m. at Veteran's Memorial Park in Salamanca, N.Y.
