LOUISVILLE, KY – The Spalding baseball team spoiled the Penn State Behrend season opener with a doubleheader sweep in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles won 15-7 and 18-1.

Game One:
Score:  Spalding 15, Penn State Behrend 7
Records: Penn State Behrend (0-1), Spalding (5-3)

Key Moments:

* Spalding took a 5-0 lead after the first three innings
* The Golden Eagles extended the lead to 14-2 with a seven-run seventh inning
* Josh Wagner (South Park, PA/South Park) was the only Lions with multiple hits
* Wagner tallied three of Behrend's eight hits
* The Lions added four runs in the eighth
* Braden Paulinellie (DuBois, PA/DuBois) had a double for his lone hit, knocking in three of the four runs in the eighth
* Caleb Caldwell (Frewsburg, NY/Frewsburg) started on the hill, getting the loss in 3.2 innings pitched

* The Golden Eagles scored 18 runs on 13 hits to complete the doubleheader sweep
* Similar to game one, Spalding had a big 10-run fourth inning to take a 14-0 lead
* Behrend tallied five hits from five different players
* Wagner, Paulinellie, Juston Jones (Moon Township, PA/Moon) and Dylan Hetrick (Mercer, PA/Mercer) each tallied a hit to start a season streak
* Paulinellie registered his second double of the weekend and finished with four RBI on the day
* Paulinellie helped the Lions get on the board in the top of the seventh inning, scoring Hetrick
* Behrend had four different pitchers in the nine-inning game
* Thomas Zbezinski (Gibsonia, PA/Pine Richland) threw the first three innings and allowed four earned runs while striking out two in the loss
* Jack Parisi got the win on the mound, going six innings and giving up just two hits while striking out seven
