Baseball Breaks Losing Streak, Beats Behrend

ERIE, Pa. – The Hilbert College baseball team continued to surprise the league with their second consecutive victory against another AMCC preseason favorite team.

The Hawks 2-1 victory over Penn State Behrend in the opening game broke a 36-game losing streak to the Lions.

Hilbert managed only four hits in the second game (and doubleheader) and suffered a 13-1 defeat in the nightcap.

The Hawks (3-3 in AMCC) moved to 6-12 overall as Penn State Behrend shifted to 10-9 overall and 1-3 AMCC.

GAME ONE:

Zachary Crane went a complete game and gave up only four hits, struck one batter out and no earned runs.

Hilbert scored their run off a pair of Behrend errors, as the Lions pitcher earned a no-hitter, struck out 15 and walked three.

Ryan Samuels took first base off a walk and moved to third when Ryan Perrin reached on an error by pitcher in the top of the 6th   Tristan Aldinger reached on a fielder's choice and advanced on a shortstop error, which scored both Hilbert runners.

Then in the bottom of the 6th, the Lions doubled to right field, advanced on an error and made it home on the next ground out.

Both teams went 3-up and 3-down to end the game with the Hawks up 2-1 in the bottom of the 7th.

GAME TWO:

Hilbert continued to struggle making contact at the plate in the second game.

Connor Duck connected for a single down the left field line in the 4th, and Ryan Perrin went the opposite way with another single down the right field line in the 6th.

Brandan Zicari earned the only multi bag hit as he poked a double to centerfield in the 7th.

With two outs in the top of the 8th, Eric Flores earned an RBI single to score Ryan Perrin

Michael Goodberry took the loss on the mound with five runs off seven hits in two innings of work.

Hilbert returns to action this week when they host Pitt-Bradford Wednesday, April 11 at Niagara University.
