ALFRED, N.Y. – Hilbert College returned to Alfred University this morning to close the Alfred State/Alfred University two-day volleyball tournament.
The Hawks suffered an opening day 3-2 loss to University of Maine Fort Kent before they fell in three to Morrisville State.
Morgan Ott was credited with 7.25 assists per set many of her passes directed to
Amanda Binder (59 attempts) and
Torianna LeWand (63 attempts). Binder led with 19 kills (2.38 kps) and LeWand added 13 kills (1.62 kps).
Ashley Repine separated the pair with 40 attempts and 15 kills from the middle of the court.
Victoria Siracuse and LeWand combined for seven of the team's nine service aces and they both were active on the first hit. Siracuse earned 49 digs (6.12 dps) and LeWand pick-up 43 (5.28 dps).
Hilbert earned victories against Fort Kent in the 1st and 4th sets (25-14, 25-21). They fell behind in the middle two (25-13, 25-18) and forced the shortened fifth set. Fort Kent won 15-12 to claim the match.
Repine was on fire finishing with 13 kills, only one hitting error in 25 attempts. Ott assisted on 41 of the team's 52 kills (.181). Siracuse and LeWand had matching 32 digs as
Anissa Quiroga (10) and Ott (13) posted double digit digs in the five set match.
Morrisville won 25-11, 25-19 and 25-20 sending Hilbert home with a 5-16 overall record.
LeWand posted seven kills and 11 digs. Siracuse (three service aces) produced another 17 dig performance and Quiroga added 12 digs.
The Hawks have five games left on their regular season schedule - four AMCC contests and one non-conference game against Houghton College (10/20).
Hilbert (1-4) will travel to the undefeated Pitt-Bradford Panthers (6-0) this week, October 18. They close their season with three games in Western New York. The Hawks will host Mt. Aloysius (0-6) October 22 and Penn State Altoona (4-1) October 29 (Senior Day). Hilbert will play their second Buffalo Cup Game at D'Youville College (4-2) October 26.
