Hawks Play First Game On Campus

HAMBURG, N.Y. – With the fear of winter weather in April affecting the playing conditions, the Hilbert women's lacrosse team hosted SUNY Canton in an early afternoon contest on campus.

The Kangaroos jumped out to an 11-0 half time lead and maintained the edge the rest of the way.

Canton (6-5) earned a 17-1 victory in a very long, day-trip to Western New York.

After Josephine Ban served her penalty minutes on the sideline, she rushed the field, took a pass and attacked the cage.  Her first shot was saved then she recovered the ground ball and fired it to the back of the net, giving the Hawks their solo goal on the day.

Canton held a 4-to-1 margin in shots and shots on goal but only held a seven ground ball advantage by the final horn.

Ashley Repine (1-8) and Caitlyn Eleczko split time in the net and they each were credited with four saves.  Eleczko made several point-blank stops in the second half.

Canton doubled the ball through the midfield and prevented Hilbert's offensive transition (9-21 on clears) and created 30 Hawk turnovers.

Aaryonah Vaughn was credited with four caused turnovers while Calista Mis worked for three caused turnovers and six ground balls.

Hilbert (1-8) returns to action this Sunday, April 15 at the Nichols School in North Buffalo when they host Lancaster Bible College in another NEAC game beginning at 12 noon.
