Moran Sets New Stolen Base Record, Hawks Split with D'Youville

BUFFALO, N.Y. – After dropping the opening game at D'Youville (6-1), the Hilbert College baseball team came back in the night cap and grabbed an 8-4 win.

The Hawks split with the Spartans in a Buffalo Cup series today, but won their first AMCC game of the season improving to 7-13 overall and 1-7 in league.

Additionally, with his seven stolen bases collected today, freshman Ian Moran set a new baseball program Single Season Stolen Base record with 19 through 20 games played.

GAME 1

Bradley Perrin knocked in the Hawks only run as he joined Eric Flores, Ryan Bonafede and Kevin Moore with solo hits in the opening game.

Hilbert was credited with six stolen bases, led by freshman Ian Moran's three.   The rookie grabbed two in a row at the start of the game and set the tone that Hilbert was looking to move around the bases.

D'Youville put three runs in the book in the second inning and added one more in the third before Hilbert connected in the fourth.

Flores singled to the left field and then stole second base as Bradley Perrin was at bat.  Perrin singled to the left field pushing Flores home for Hilbert's solo run.

GAME 2

With a slow start in the night cap, Hilbert trailed the Spartans 2-1 through three innings.  The Hawks strung together three runs in the top of the 4th only to watch D'Youville knot the game at 5-5 at the bottom of the 5th.

Hilbert scored a single run in the 6th and put the game away in the 8th inning with three more runs for the AMCC victory.

Michael Voveris earned his first win on the mound with nine hits, two earned runs and five strike outs through eight innings of work.

Ian Moran stole four more bases in the night cap to sprint to 19 for the season which moved him to #6 in the program's All Time list his brief career.  Moran also led at the plate, going 3-for-6 scoring twice with an RBI.

Tomorrow's double header against Keuka College has been postponed.  A make-up date will be announced shortly.  Looking ahead, Hilbert will host Penn State Altoona this Saturday, April 15.  It will be a busy day on campus with three sports teams competing at home for the first time this spring.
