Panthers Unable to Overcome Slow Start, Fall to Bobcats

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's soccer team began its AMCC schedule on Sunday, losing to the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats 5-1.

The Panthers were under pressure right away, as the Bobcats went on the attack and scored on their first attack of the game. The visitors scored the opening goal in the 3rd minute, and then after Jared Scarlett made a save in the 6th, saw the deficit double as the Bobcats scored following a corner kick in the 7th. The Panthers were able to break through the midfield and take two shots toward the Pitt-Greensburg goal in the next 5 minutes but fell behind 3-0 after the Bobcats scored in the 22nd. Connor Rudesll' and Bailee Verdill each had efforts late in the 1st half but could not find the target. 

The Panthers were able to keep the deficit at three early after the break, as Jared Scarlett made a save and Cole Faulkner cleared a shot off the line. The visitors were able to break through again in the 55th and then went ahead 5-0 with another tally in the 63rd. Devin Stowe was able to put the Panthers's first shot on target in the 64th when he flicked a header towards the target after a free kick. The Panthers were able to get on the scoreboard late, as a misplayed backpass from a Bobcat defender found the corner of the net for an own goal.

Jared Scarlett finished with 7 saves in the match, making 6 in the 2nd stanza. Spencer Sklar led the Panthers with two shots, while Devin Stowe was the only Panther to force a save in the Pitt-Greensburg goal. 

The Panthers fall to 0-7-1 on the season and 0-1 in AMCC play. They will be back in action on Tuesday night, as they will host the Alfred State Pioneers at Veteran's Memorial Park in Salamanca, N.Y. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
