ALFRED, N.Y. – In a crazy five minutes of action, three goals were scored during the 90-minute game and when the final whistle was blown, Alfred University claimed a 2-1 non-conference victory over the visiting Hilbert College women's soccer team September 17.  Alfred improved to 3-2-1 and Hilbert dipped to 2-3 overall.

In an evenly-played contest, the Saxons and the Hawks were almost identical in shots with Hilbert gaining an extra attempt (13-12). The only clear advantage in stats was the five corner kicks Alfred was awarded compared to Hilbert's one.

And it was at 38:38 that Alfred converted a corner kick into a head-shot goal from the top of the box.   Then the Saxons served a restart directly on frame and when Grace Adams didn't fully gather the ball to her body, Alfred knocked the loose ball to the back of the next at 43:20.

Hilbert drove down the field immediately after the kick-off and Megan Van Norman's cross to the frame deflected past the Alfred keeper eighteen seconds later.

Jennifer Colvin led all players with four shots and she and Van Norman combined for all six Hilbert attempts.

Hilbert returns to action this weekend when they hosts Thiel College in a non-conference double header game with the men's teams.  The Hawks will recognize Hilbert Hall of Famer Beata Fijalkowski-Eickhoff, a 2001 graduate prior to the start of the game.

The women's soccer program will also dedicate the day's action to honor and remember all those who suffer from bullying.  They will hold a brief ceremony prior to the start of the game to spread the Anti-Bullying message.
