Men's Soccer Picks Up a Point After 2-2 OT tie

BRADFORD, Pa. – Matthew Barth's PK in the 76th minute knotted the game at 2-2 and forced what turned out to be a 2-2 double overtime tie between the visiting Hawks from Hilbert and Pitt-Bradford Panthers this afternoon.

Hilbert (2-7-1) picked up a point in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference league standings with a 0-3-1 record and they kept Bradford (1-8-1) from building a larger separation with a 1-1-1 mark.

Bradford put a point on the board before the ten minute mark with a ball played to the middle of the box which beat Ryan Valentine.  The Panthers rode the 1-0 lead the intermission even though the Hawks held a 9-7 shots advantage.

Hilbert stormed out the second half and unleased 14 shots picking up their offensive effort.  It paid off in the 59th minute when Tyler Eister scored his second goal of the season.  After a loose ball squirted out to midfield, Eister won a foot-race and squeezed it past the Panther goal keeper to knot the game at 1-1.

Just sixty-eight second later, Bradford regained the lead at 60:30.

The Hawks continued to attack and battled with passion.  Hilbert attempted four shots and worked off one corner kick pressuring the host's defensive back line.  Bradford was whistled for a foul in the box which awarded a penalty kick for Hilbert.

Matthew Barth connected and evened the score at 2-2 with just under 15 minutes left in regulation.  Hilbert attempted a pair of header-shots and corner kicks to run the clock down to zero.

Bradford had a chance to win the game in the 1st OT but their shot at 93:21 hit the post.  Each team was credited with shots in the second OT – Hilbert's high and Bradford's turned into a Valentine save.

For the match, Eister (3) and Ryan Schupp (2) were 70% of Hilbert's weapons.  Nicolas Rodriguez and Paul Caterina were credited with a single shot on goal and Garrett Rehner, Alejandro Muniz (2) Barth (4), Travis Hicks, Daniel Pulaski, Nick Szabala, Nicholas Clay and Justin Gilfert ended with a shot.

Ryan Valentine made eight saves in  110 minutes of action in his 32nd career game.

Hilbert will host the 2-1-1 La Roche Redhawks this Saturday at 3:15 pm.

The Hawks will honor their ten (10) seniors immediately follow the conclusion of the women's 1:00 pm game.

Fans should arrive for a 2:50pm ceremony along the bleacher side of the field and share in the Senior Day activities for Matthew Barth, Brandon Ciesielski, Tyler Eister, Justin Gilfert, Brandon Henry, Kurtis Maloney, Alejandro Muniz,  Anthony Pellicano,  Daniel Pulaski, and Nicolas Rodriguez.
