STEUBENVILLE, OH – The Hilbert College softball team ran into two hot hitters this afternoon from Franciscan as the Hawks split their AMCC double header in Ohio.
Hilbert dropped the opener 10-6 and captured a 7-3 nightcap win.
Jenna Castricone went 3-for-7 and knocked in her first home run (4th in career) of her final season on the diamond.
GAME ONE
Franciscan jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the start of the game and poked a 2-run Homer in the 3rd scoring three more runs.
The Hawks tallied four runs in the 5th slicing the margin to one run, but the Barons poked back-to-back homers in the 5th, adding two more runs. Then in the 6th the same Franciscan player who already hit a pair of home runs in the game, pushed two more runners home off a bases-loaded single. Hilbert's final attempt in the 7th came up short.

Morgan Grosch's at bat scored
Hannah Prenoveau and Delaney slicing the score, 5-4.
Delaney earned her second double-bagger in the game and scored off Castricone's single. Grosch earned a hit to send Castricone home for the game's final run.
Delaney went 3-for-4 (1) and Grosch (3) and Castricone (2) pushed in all six runs.
Rachel Allen went 4.1 innings, struck out four, gave up eight hits and six earned runs.
GAME TWO
Franciscan took a 3-0 lead right out of the gate in the night cap. But Hilbert responded with four runs before the start of the 4th. They then added one run in the final three innings building the 7-3 margin of victory.
Grosch went 3-for-4 while Castricone and
Melanie Basile each went 2-for-3. Catricone knocked in a pair of runs, one off her homerun in the 5th and Basile's two hits were both doubles.
Marisa McIntyre tossed a four hit, three earned run complete game to improve to 4-5 on the season.
Basile's first double scored Grosch in the 2nd. The Hawks loaded the bases in the 3rd with a pair of bunts and a fielding error. Prenoveau walked home before
Gabriella Bongiorno's RBI single scored Delaney.
Morgan McNeill's sac fly scored Barnas to give Hilbert a 4-3.
After Castricone homered in the 5th, Grosch scored in the 6th and Grosch and Catricone hooked up again in the 7th for another RBI single.
The Hawks return to action tomorrow morning when they battle Pitt-Greensburg in Pittsburgh in the AMCC make-up game.
