Behrend Men’s Soccer Faces Houghton To Begin Three-Game Homestand

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team will begin a three-game homestand with a matchup against Houghton on Wednesday, Sep. 20. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Behrend News & Notes:

* The Lions finished in a scoreless draw against Grove City this past Wednesday and picked up a 2-1 victory at Chatham on Saturday
* A turning point in Saturday's contest came with 23 seconds left in the first half, Stephen Comeaux received a red card which would cause the Cougars to play the rest of the game a man-down
* Sophomore Jac Caputo (Pittsburgh, PA/Montour) knotted the score at one with a penalty kick in the 60th minute for his first goal of the season
* The game winner for Behrend would come from Kiefer in the 81st minute when Brock Kiefer (Eighty-Four, PA/Canon McMillan) fought the ball away from a Chatham defender, crossing it off another defender and in to the goal for his first collegiate score
* Behrend  took advantage of the man-up opportunity in the second half, controlling possession for most of the half by outshooting Chatham 22-11
* Goalkeeper Sam York (Akron, OH/Revere) made six saves in the two contests, including earning his second shutout of the season

Meet the Opposition:

* Houghton has begun the season with a 3-2-1 overall record, defeating Keuka 1-0 in their first conference game of the season on Saturday
* Junior Alex Kalivoda leads the team with 14 points, scoring four goals and dishing out six assists
* Caleb Bailey and Andy Loomis have also tallied four scores, while notching 10 and nine points, respectively
* Goalkeepers Jack Arterton (nine saves) and Sam Carpenter (five saves) have split time this year in net
* The Highlanders return 18 players this season, including seven starters. Also, eight newcomers are welcomed to the team for the 2023 season
* Of the 18 returners, Andy Loomis was named to the 2023 Empire 8 Men's Soccer Players to Watch list
* Houghton finished last season with a 5-11-2 overall record and a 3-4-2 record in conference play

Series History:

* Behrend has won the last three matchups against the Highlanders, however Houghton leads the series 18-3-4, dating back to 1972
