Redhawks Open 2024 Season Against Wilson

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – La Roche women's lacrosse hit the field on Sunday afternoon to open the 2024 season, but were unable to get past Wilson, falling to the Phoenix, 18-5.

Wilson kick started the matchup with the first three goals of the game at 13:11, 10:20 and 5:25 of the first quarter.

The Redhawks responded just 20 seconds later, as Tea Smith scored the first goal of the season, unassisted, to make it 3-1.

The Phoenix would net a goal nine seconds after to make it 4-1, followed by La Roche's second goal, a free position goal by Jade Fuccaro to make it 4-2.

Wilson would score the final goal of the first, making it 5-2, then opened the second quarter scoring to make it 6-2.

Jasey Raiser would cut the deficit in half with 4:39 to go until the break, as her unassisted goal made it 6-3.

The Phoenix countered with a pair of goals in 42 seconds to up the edge to 8-3, but Kiki Nemchek's first collegiate goal with 2:29 to go in the half made it 8-4.

Wilson got the final goal before the break as the first half ended 9-4 in favor of the Phoenix.

Out of the break, Wilson turned it up on the offensive end, scoring nine consecutive goals, including shutting out the Redhawks 7-0 in the third, then scoring the first two goals of the fourth.

Raiser closed the scoring with 7:43 to go, her second of the game, leading to the eventual final score.

The Redhawks finished the game with 13 shots, 10 of which were on the cage.

Raiser's five shots was the team high, followed by Nemchek's four shots, all of which were on target, for the team high in the game.

In the net, AMCC Co-Defensive Preseason Player of the Year, Julianna Hornikel, stopped 15 of the 33 shots that came her way.

La Roche now begins a four-game home stand, starting on Wednesday, March 7, when the Redhawks host Waynesburg. Opening faceoff is set for 4 p.m.
